Nuclear singlet relaxation by chemical exchange

چکیده

The population imbalance between nuclear singlet states and triplet of strongly coupled spin-1/2 pairs, also known as order, is well protected against several common relaxation mechanisms. We study the 13C pairs in aqueous solutions 1,2-13C2 squarate over a range pH values. order accessed by introducing 18O nuclei to break chemical equivalence. dianion equilibrium with hydrogen-squarate (SqH?) squaric acid (SqH2) characterized dissociation constants pK1 = 1.5 pK2 3.4. Surprisingly, we observe striking increase decay time TS when solution exceeds ?10, which far above acid–base points. derive general rate expressions for chemical-exchange-induced provide qualitative explanation behavior dianion. identify kinetic contribution constant, explicitly depends on constants. Qualitative agreement achieved theory experimental data. This shows that infrequent events may have strong effect order.

Paramagnetic relaxation of nuclear singlet states.

Nuclear singlet states often display lifetimes that are much longer than conventional nuclear spin relaxation times. Here we investigate the effect of dissolved paramagnetic species on the singlet relaxation of proton pairs in solution. We find a linear correlation between the singlet relaxation rate constant T and the longitudinal relaxation rate constant T. The slope of the correlation depend...

Nuclear magnetic relaxation induced by exchange-mediated orientational randomization: longitudinal relaxation dispersion for spin I = 1.

The frequency dependence of the longitudinal relaxation rate, known as the magnetic relaxation dispersion (MRD), can provide a frequency-resolved characterization of molecular motions in complex biological and colloidal systems on time scales ranging from 1 ns to 100 μs. The conformational dynamics of immobilized proteins and other biopolymers can thus be probed in vitro or in vivo by exploitin...

Differential multiple quantum relaxation caused by chemical exchange outside the fast exchange limit.

Differential relaxation of multiple quantum coherences is a signature for chemical exchange processes in proteins. Previous analyses of experimental data have used theoretical descriptions applicable only in the limit of fast exchange. Theoretical expressions for differential relaxation rate constants that are accurate outside fast exchange are presented for two-spin-system subject to two-site ...

Chemical quenching of singlet oxygen by betanin.

Betanin is the best known natural dye belonging to the betacyanin family. In this work, efficient singlet oxygen quenching by betanin in deuterated water with the rate constant 1.20 ± 0.15 × 10(8) M(-1) s(-1) is reported, deduced from the (1)O2 phosphorescence decays measured as a function of betanin concentration. The quenching occurs by a chemical mechanism, as confirmed by the analysis of th...

Direct enhancement of nuclear singlet order by dynamic nuclear polarization.

Hyperpolarized singlet order is available immediately after dissolution DNP, avoiding need for additional preparation steps. We demonstrate this procedure on a sample of [1,2-(13)C(2)]pyruvic acid.
